Releasing potential on a budget

Our client on this project is a stained glass artist.  The kitchen was small, gloomy and down a step from the rest of the ground floor.  As a result, one had to go up into the hall and up into the rear dining area.  The existing rear utility extension was a huge problem, not having been built to any technical specification and suffering major leaks!

By a very simple rear infill, re-levelling and removal of the old back wall, coupled with the client’s wonderful colour scheme, a transformed unified ‘family-room’ has emerged.  The scheme design also introduced a new downstairs W.C.  off the hall and an office wall.  One unique feature was a hole in the wc wall to enable ladders for example to be brought in through the front door and straight through the hatch into the kitchen area and then to the garden!

Stephen Waldron Architects provided a service from inception through to tendering the works and finalising the package to start on site. The clients project managed the scheme on site themselves.

The client said: We weren’t sure what to expect when we asked Stephen to design an extension for our small Edwardian terraced house. After an initial meeting he quickly interpreted all our ideas and gave us a beautiful open plan living space which we now live in. Thanks Stephen, it’s perfect
